"Ground Hit" Drill

This drill comes from Tony Zaputil our July 2002 Drill of the Month Winner.

The drill is designed to improve hitters to put the ball in play when having 2 strikes.

Take 3 to 4 batters (the rest of the team will be fielders) soft toss a ball to one batter at a time. Batter must try to hit the ball on the ground. Batter must stay on top of the ball and focus on hitting the ball on the ground.

The batter has 2 strikes and is required to swing at the pitch regardless of where the ball is tossed. If they normally choke up or crowd the plate with 2 strikes, have them do those things.

If they hit a groundball, they get a point. If they hit a foul ball, swing and miss, or hit a fly ball that is caught they get zero points. Give each batter 5 swings and track the results. Take top 3 and have a playoff round to determine champion.

This drill helps the batter hit the ball on the ground and learn how to hit with 2 strikes.
